“ Being involved in and able to sponsor an award at the inaugural Autism Professional Awards was both an honour and a great pleasure. The professionals who work with youngsters and adults on the spectrum 24/7 are amazing- dedicated, caring and often under-valued... I hope we can help to make this event an annual highlight in our calendar.”

AXCIS  Education

Axcis Education Recruitment is the foremost specialist supplier of quality special educational needs (SEN) staffing solutions in the UK. Our commitment to working with government and professional partners plus our duty of care, ensures that, despite wide-ranging changes in education, we can have a positive effect on the lives of the young people with SEND we ultimately support. We appreciate these young people are some of the most vulnerable in our education system and require inclusive nurture to allow them to achieve to the very best of their ability.

The company was established in 2001 and we are the only company focused wholly on SEND. Jean Wilson, the Managing Director, came on board soon after its inception, bringing with her a wealth of hands-on knowledge and experience of teaching and senior leadership spanning fifteen years in a wide of schools. Jean understands the importance of placing appropriately qualified, trained by professionals in schools, and the effect that has on outcomes for a young person’s learning and development. Our growth continues to be an exciting journey which started in London and now includes offices in Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham and Sheffield.

Our relationship with our clients is of paramount importance to us and we pride ourselves on working closely to build  long-term partnerships. Our reputation is upheld by the quality of candidate we manage. Every candidate undergoes in-depth vetting procedures to ensure safeguarding requirements are met and we hold the DfE Quality Mark in Education. At Axcis, we only recruit staff with the expertise to work with young people with SEND. Our continuous professional development package is open to all candidates or client school staff. We facilitate a variety of courses over the academic year: Team Teach, Makaton and PECS, SEN and Mental Health, TEACCH, Autism Awareness, teacher and support induction plus Managing Challenging Behaviour.

Our range of placements vary from senior leaders, teachers, support staff, education psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and school nurses for special schools and SEN departments in mainstream schools. We recruit for daily, long-term and permanent placements. Our latest appointment to the company is an Executive Manager with responsibility for senior leadership posts both interim and permanent in nature.

We believe that a company working in education has a moral responsibility to the sector, and as part of that we are a corporate sponsor of The National Autistic Society (NAS) and headline sponsor of the 2013 Professional Conference and Autism Professionals Awards. We work closely with the NAS and other professional bodies such as NASEN, National Association of Independent Schools and Non-Maintained Special Schools (NASS), Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT). At our July company day Lorraine Peterson, CEO of NASEN gave an informative presentation on the SEND Green paper and next steps, whilst Claire Dorer, the Chief Executive of NASS presented on making sense of Mental Health issues for young people with SEN.

Our vision for the future of Axcis includes the development of our relationship with our key stakeholders, clients and candidates, further thought leadership and innovation in the SEN sector and the upholding of our core value as a company - to ‘do good’ and not just to ‘do well’.
